Human sensual pleasures has been highly focused on penile satisfaction and penetrative pleasures, even to the point where women faking their own orgasms to maximize their partner’s pleasure and withholding their own sexual dissatisfaction is common practice. The general entertainment media propagates further unrealistic sex acts that prioritizes the male pleasure, while being oblivious to women’s sensual and sexual needs. About 75% of all women never reach orgasm from intercourse alone. Also, in long term relationships, about 42% women and 54% men are not satisfied with their sex lives. Here, there is a substantial need for society to expand its sensual awareness beyond the penis to include not only the clitoris, vulvas and vaginas but other parts of the body that might be uniquely pleasurable to any women, men and sexually ambiguous people.

‘Pleasure Me’ by Yves Gore is a performance that welcomes audiences of any gender and sexuality into participating in it as openly as they like, at their own level of comfort and tolerance. The participant can choose to interact with themselves, or with Yves Gore the artist, verbally and/or through touch. The exhibit will be a safe space where there is a chance to explore one’s sensual boundaries through a “Wall of Break”. For an increased interaction (optional), there’s a chance to verbally explore oneself via speaking about the degree of personal sensual fulfillment in their personal lives to the artist or through touch based interaction with the artist depending on their level of comfort. There will be no penetrative contact for this performance and participants can stop the interaction any time. The goal of this performance is to break down any internalized shame towards pleasure, develop a sense of empowerment from having the opportunity to verbalize one’s sensual preference and the opportunity to physically discover one’s new sensual zones. Paint and canvases are involved in this performance so wear clothes you are comfortable getting smudged in and let’s get dirty!

[Artist Bio]

Yves Gore is a performance artist and gothic musician from Borneo Island, the Land of the Headhunters. She grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and is based in Los Angeles. The themes of her work revolve around depression, suicidal ideation and renegotiating the boundaries of social stigma through performance. Yves has performed in 15 countries around the globe from TRANSCINEMA in Lima, Peru to VISIONS DU RÉEL Festival in Geneva, Switzerland and most recently at the BURNT OF SNOW Festival in Inner Mongolia, China. She has also taught academic classes on subjects from 'How to Survive a Comic Convention' at UCLA Extension, 'Artist with Issues' at USC School of Dramatic Arts, to 'Staying Creative while Managing Depression' at Dunedin School of Art, New Zealand where she was named best lecturer of the decade. Yves Gore has been featured in major trades like the New Zealand Herald, La República and the L.A.Times. She is concurrently working on her first vampire comic book series and on climate crisis advocacy.
