The Terraformation art residency, dedicated to designing a museum built using natural techniques, took place in June 2024 in the town of Butera, Sicily, bringing together a group of artists, architects, and engineers. The collaboration with natural scientists, including botanist Lucia Termini, pedologist Riccardo Scalenghe, and permaculture practitioner Mario Carbone, formed the foundation of the project, titled Fluid Bricks.
This series of adobe brick prototypes was created for the construction of partition elements in the natural museum. Some of the Fluid Bricks were used in an altar installation at Farm Cultural Park. Inspired by the rich variety of local plants, the bricks mimic the vegetation of the area where the museum will be built, such as the Medicago arborea (Tree Medic), whose hook-shaped seeds cling to the fur of grazing animals and are transported from place to place. Another prototype draws inspiration from the large leaves of the agave plant. These prototypes aim to move away from the standard rectangular brick, a symbol of rapid, industrial construction, and instead create fluid bricks that reflect nature's designs, aligning with the rhythms and timescales of the local environment.
